The 108th Lions International Convention is right around the corner. You’re registered for the event. You’ve made the travel plans and booked the perfect hotel. Now here’s some info and tips to help make your stay in Hong Kong a memorable one.

Convention to-dos

Convention is kicking off, and we want you to make the most of it. As you get ready for your convention experience, are some things to look forward to and add to your itinerary:

  • Pick up your badge – Pick up your name badge and registration materials on Friday and get an exclusive panda pin. Pins only available on Friday!
  • Help Set a World Record! Wear your national dress and join Lions from around the world on Tuesday morning for the Tai Chi World Record Event – an experience unlike anything in convention history.
  • Take a day tour – We’ve prepared exclusive opportunities for Lions to explore incredible Hong Kong destinations. Book yours today before your ideal tour fills up!
  • Share on social – Share your experience on social media with the tag #LionsCon26.

Before you leave home

Time to pack your bags. Here are a few things you’ll want to consider making room for in your suitcase.

  • The essentials – Don’t forget your passport, plus everyday items like medications or eyeglasses.
  • Travel adaptors – Hong Kong uses Type G power outlets and a standard voltage of 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.
  • The right attire – The overall convention dress code is casual, but summer in Hong Kong can be hot, humid and rainy — or all three! Temperatures fall between 24°C (75°F) and 34°C (93°F), so be sure to pack items that keep you cool and dry, like breezy clothing, a fan, rain-ready gear and a water bottle. Also, make sure to pack your national dress as well as some comfortable clothing for the Tai Chi Event!
  • Wheelchairs and scooters – Scooters are illegal in Hong Kong, so you’ll need to use a power wheelchair.
  • Pins to trade – Pack any pins you’d like to swap, share or exchange to get in on the tradition and fun of pin trading.
  • Donation drive items – Support those in need by donating new washcloths and hand towels. Items can be dropped off in the Exhibit Hall collection bin.

Remember, if you’re traveling from outside of Hong Kong, you’ll need to clear customs. Check out this useful information for international visitors ahead of your departure to be sure you’re all set to enter the country.

Getting around Hong Kong

There are plenty of options available for you to get around Hong Kong. Those staying at official convention hotels will have exclusive access to shuttles to and from convention events, accessible after showing your hotel key. In addition, you have the following options for getting around.

  • Mass Transit Railway (MTR)
  • Ferry
  • Local bus
  • Taxi
  • Rideshare

Learn more about your different shuttle and transportation options. And don’t forget to purchase an MTR Octopus Card for easy access around the city.

Stuff to know

You’ve just touched down in Hong Kong. This quick list should make getting around a whole lot easier.

  • Time zone – Hong Kong is in Hong Kong Time or HKT.
  • Currency – Local currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD).
  • Tipping – Tipping is not generally customary or required at restaurants, cafes or bars in Hong Kong.
  • Cashless exhibit hall – Keep in mind, exhibit hall concessions will be cashless, so be sure to bring along credit and/or debit cards to make purchases.

Travel like a pro

Hong Kong is a destination like no other, mixing a rich history and culture with modern marvels of technology and architecture. And as with any cultural hub, there are some local customs to keep in mind as you get ready for Hong Kong!

  • Language accessibility: Street signs, transportation, and most shops and restaurants include English, making it very accessible for visitors.
  • Clean and orderly public spaces: Hong Kong is known for its cleanliness and strong sense of public order. You will not see local Hong Kongers eating as they ride on public transportation or walk around town.
  • Other courtesies: Wearing a mask in public is a common way people show consideration for others.
  • Urban and scenic experiences: Within a short distance, you can move from bustling city streets to waterfront views, green spaces and beautiful harbor scenery.
  • Shared spaces: In many traditional eateries, shared tables are common — offering a lively and authentic way to dine like a local and maybe even make a new friend!
  • Table etiquette: You’ll notice some restaurants have two sets of chop sticks at the table. One set is for serving from shared dishes and the other is for your personal plate.

Hong Kong is a dynamic, culturally rich destination. Hopefully you’re now better prepared to take full advantage of everything a Lions convention in a world-class destination like Hong Kong has to offer.

Beginning Friday morning at 08:00, you can visit the registration desk inside the AsiaWorld-Expo with your photo ID to check in and pick up your convention badge. Remember to pick up your badge on Friday to receive your exclusive panda pin. 🐼
